Abstract:
The Standard Model of particle physics is remarkably successful and deceptively compact in structure. Its apparent simplicity conceals a rich phenomenology and a remarkable diversity of particle properties. In this talk I will focus on two particles, the proton and the top quark, and illustrate their strikingly different properties through a small selection of recent results from the CMS experiment at CERN.
